Mount Shasta, September 6-8, 2024! Mumineen Hiking AsC.

It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.

Sir Edmund Hillary

Baad Salaam il Jameel,

Welcome to MHA 2024 – Mt. Shasta!

Space is filling up fast! Registration here!

Mt. Shasta is the fifth-highest mountain in California, at 14, 129′ and only 326 ft. lower than Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the lower 48. Climbing at these elevations changes a lot of things about your body, including the way you eat, drink water, and sleep. There is no running water, no bathroom past the trailhead, no food save what you bring up yourself, and no one to rely on but yourself. It is not just a backyard hike, it is mountaineering, and we hope that you understand this, and train accordingly. That sounds really scary, but if you come prepared and understand the mountain, it’ll be an awesome adventure and you’ll have nothing to worry about!

Here is the link to register and you can cancel your registration with a full refund by June 15, 2024. After that date, NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED. We will only be able to support a certain number of people due to limited space at the base camp. Here is the gear list that you will be responsible for bringing with you on the climb.

DAY 1 (FRIDAY):

Leave from Fremont between 9AM-12PM and drive to McCloud and get into hotels. We will be setting up our packs and getting the best rest, because the next 2 days will be grueling!

DAY 2 (SATURDAY):

Wake up at 5AM and drive to the trailhead. We would like to emphasize that in the morning, we need to leave at 5 sharp, so there won’t be any time for “chai biskut”. Arrive at the trailhead at 7AM, and ranger groups can start heading out by 7:15. The hike to the Clear Creek trailhead generally takes 6 hours, so we expect groups to get to the campground by 2-3pm. We begin setting up our tents, and generally hunkering down for the evening, because we start early the next day!

DAY 3 (SUNDAY):

Wake up at 2AM and begin the ascent to the summit. This summit attempt will take roughly 14 hours. We will leave our packs at the Clear Creek campground and then summit, picking up our packs on the way back down. And then another 3 hours to come down. We will have dinner in McCloud at a Mexican restaurant and drive back to your point of arrival (Bay Area, LA, Bakersfield, or Las Vegas).

*IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT*

  • This is NOT just a recreational trek.
  • We will be trekking at extremely high altitudes where you will likely experience altitude sickness brought on by a lack of oxygen causing vomiting, headaches, heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, and nausea.
  • These are all very common symptoms that can start even at base camp (12k ft above seal level) and won’t go away unless you come back to sea level (1 hour drive).
  • To limit such sickness, everyone will be required to take Diamox (Acetazolamide), this can be easily prescribed by your physician. This will help reduce risk of swelling in the brain and fluid in the lungs.
  • There are NO bathrooms and there is NO running water during the camp and hike.
  • Mumineen with healthcare related issues should not register for trek unless approved by their healthcare professional.
  • Coming prepared with the right knowledge, gear, and physical/mental state is crucial for a safe and successful summit.
  • Climbing all the way up is optional, coming back down is mandatory
